This year Women in BIM (WIB) celebrates its 10 year anniversary, and what a celebration it was here in Ōtautahi Christchurch! The BIMsiNZ BIM user group was the conduit for the event in which we all gathered at the Aurecon city centre office.
We had pizza and refreshments supplied by a friendly local sponsor (Spaces by Cerulean Labs) and Keri Niven (local WIB representative & Aurecon legend) introduced the evening. We also had an excellent update and overview on the origins of WIB by Founder Rebecca De Cicco via the magic of video call.
It was inspiring to see the growth of the organisation from humble beginnings to global growth. The Mentorship (Mentees and Mentors) Programme in particular stirred questions from our user group. It’s clear that these programmes are key to growing diversity, support and better outcomes to all in the construction industry.
Next up was a presentation by Kylie Adamson from Warren and Mahoney which really showed us all how you can grow, change and never stop learning in your career. Kylie shared her career story which was entertaining and expansive.
After a brief social break we had our second speaker Mary Mohs from Construction Workshop. Mary took a business personality concept and applied it to BIM with a fun presentation on “the many hats of BIM: which one do you wear?”. Mary showed that you need different people in the team (wearing different BIM hats) to drive innovation and success.
We rounded our evening off with a final social.
The vibe of the gathering was very positive and I am proud to be connected to such a wonderful user group. We all look forward to the BIM user group events in 2023 and seeing WIB flourish!
