ThreadPoint is a story-led education programme helping children, young people and communities understand the physical infrastructure behind the digital world.
Founded by Willow Williams, a built environment professional with over 15 years of industry experience and Women in BIM Global Education Lead – Willow and her team at ThreadPoint are combining storytelling, hands-on LEGO builds and digital environments to make complex infrastructure concepts accessible, tangible and engaging.
ThreadPoint in schools – in schools, it delivers structured sessions for children aged 5–11 that are curriculum aligned, safeguarding conscious and designed to create measurable learning impact.
Children are introduced to the fundamentals of digital infrastructure, including what a data centre is, how power and cooling support it and why these systems matter in everyday life.
ThreadPoint in the community – in community settings, ThreadPoint runs intergenerational sessions in libraries and community venues, creating space for children, teenagers, parents, carers and grandparents to learn together.
Since late 2025, the programme has been delivering monthly sessions across Hackney through a year long commission with the London Borough of Hackney.
ThreadPoint in industry – ThreadPoint has also collaborated with industry partners including Microsoft, with sessions delivered inside operational data centre facilities in London and Wales, as well as teams from Mace Group and John Paul Construction.
As women working across the built environment, we know that awareness of infrastructure careers often begins long before university or apprenticeships. Programmes like ThreadPoint help open that door earlier, particularly in communities living alongside major infrastructure, where residents may not otherwise see a pathway into the industries shaping the world around them.
ThreadPoint will also make its conference debut at the Gen+1 Young Persons Conference on 11 June in Shoreditch, a gathering focused on supporting the next generation in the data centre industry.
