On Thursday 19 May, Women in BIM (WIB), in collaboration with SydBIM, hosted its first face-to-face event at the University of Technology Sydney.
The topic “Digital Career Pathways and Opportunities” was presented in three ways from speaker Jenny Tseng – WIB NSW Regional Lead, Digital Delivery Practice Lead at Mott MacDonald introducing WIB and shared her Digital Career Pathway in the forms of building blocks. Julie Jupp – Associate Professor of UTS highlighted the challenges in Digital Engineering Education for all engineers and Belinda Hodkinson – Principal Digital Services of Spiire identified what cross-skill sets means to professionals.
The discussion panel after, moderated by David Foley, Director of IIMBE, was very engaging and interactive with the audience. Some of the questions raised included addressing the critical importance of harnessing new digital skills, ways to enable better digital education catching up with the resourcing demand and rapid change in technology and tips for practitioners wishing to transition employees and students for a sustainable growth in their digital career.
There are still many challenges and uncertainties ahead, however, the construction industry as a whole is forging together hoping to evolve and create a better digital future.
