When Aurecon Environment and Planning’s Nina Van Rooijen, approached our Digital Creative Technology team with an idea for a new Digital Tool to deliver Environmental Reports, the timing could not have been better.
Digital Director, Rachel Hicks, explains: “We had just finished delivering a similar style environmental report manually, due to the absence in the market of a good digital tool. So we had built a strong understanding within the team of how such reporting could help differentiate Aurecon digitally, and the incredible impact a great authoring tool for producing a report could make for project teams and clients.”
And with a brand new Product Owner, Suyama Liyanage, waiting for her first opportunity with Aurecon to build something amazing, the stars aligned for a female led team to bring the tool, Aurecon air ® (Advanced Interactive Reporting) to life.
At its heart, this tool is about making the complex simple!
Nina had observed that in recent years, information required to demonstrate environmental statutory requirements had grown increasingly complex for decisionmakers and community members and influenced project schedules.
Aurecon air® was the solution – reimagining environmental assessments with its ability to turn static data into dynamic insights using interactive maps and 3D scenes, facilitating community understanding and feedback of critical project information and speeding up decision-making for faster delivery of critical infrastructure projects.
Over a year later, the team had progressed the application from a minimum viable product (MVP) to a mature tool ready for roll out on multiple platinum client projects, including for Transgrid, Transport for New South Wales and RTIO. From Sumaya Osman and Transgrid.
While, for the Aurecon team, the successful application of the technology to solving client problems was the end goal, there was much excitement when a further accolade was achieved, with the application being recognized in the 2024 Good Design Awards.
The Jury praised how Aurecon Air® is empowering communities and delivering sustainable outcomes, commenting: “Aurecon air® redefines environmental assessments with its user-friendly format, increasing transparency and decision-making efficiency.
With Aurecon air shortlisted for further 2024 awards from AFR and the Planning institute of Australia, the future looks bright for this female led digital initiative.
