On Friday, 30 May 2025, a significant collaboration between Lendlease, Curtin University, and Women in BIM (WIB) came to life as students from Curtin’s Construction Management program, within the School of Design and the Built Environment, visited the B316 Science Building site – a major project currently under construction by Lendlease on the university’s Bentley campus.
This visit was far more than a typical construction site visit. It began with an introduction to Women in BIM (WIB) – a global advocacy group dedicated to advancing diversity and inclusion in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. Through this initiative, students were able to gain meaningful insight into WIB’s vision, values, and the critical role they play in shaping a more equitable and inclusive built environment.
Designed to inspire as much as to inform, the visit offered students to engage directly with WIB representatives, who shared insights into career development, mentorship, and how to actively support diversity in construction. The message was clear: it’s not only about women supporting women, but about building a community where men and women work together to promote gender equity in a historically male-dominated field.
Lendlease’s project team also played a key role, sharing their expertise on the innovative construction techniques and digital tools being used on the B316 project. Their insights highlighted how the industry is evolving – embracing technology and forward-thinking practices to shape the future of construction.
This event represents an important educational initiative in Western Australia—bringing together industry leaders, academic institutions, and advocacy organisations to empower the next generation of construction professionals with well-rounded knowledge, strong values, and forward-thinking perspective to lead with purpose in the built environment.
