From Robotics to Relationships: BIM‑Enabled Construction & Speed Networking

Jonathon Dutton from Southbase will be presenting on the New Dunedin Hospital Outpatients Project, a landmark healthcare development that required innovative thinking and a strong digital delivery approach. For this project, Southbase set out to push the boundaries of speed, accuracy, and safety in the construction of a highly complex and operationally critical asset. Building on their extensive experience in BIM coordination and digital implementation, the team successfully integrated advanced construction technologies into live site workflows.

As part of this journey, Southbase achieved two New Zealand construction firsts through the deployment of the Hiliti Jaibot and the HP Site Printer. These technologies enabled greater precision, improved productivity, and enhanced on-site safety, while also demonstrating how digital tools can be effectively translated from the model environment into real-world construction outcomes. This presentation will share practical insights into the digital requirements, planning, and collaboration needed to successfully enable these workflows on site, offering valuable lessons for teams looking to adopt robotics and advanced digital solutions in construction.
